Pelican feast

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Sunday afternoon, I think it was, the ocean right below the spot where Carol and I sit on the bluffs, suddenly became alive.  The pelicans discovered something, some sort of fish perhaps, very close to the shore.  They must have some sort of message system because within a matter of minutes 50 or 60 birds had gathered, swirling in the air, and dive bombing the water.  The gulls came along to pick up the leavings.  At it's peak well over a hundred birds were doing their business.

The slow motion frenzy of the feeding is hard to see in still pictures; I wish I had had a motion picture camera.
