I decided to check out the slough, thinking that after these heavy rains it would be maxed out. But that wasn't the case:
Some water. Yes. But lots of silt too. Possibly because the water got high enough to break on through to the ocean:

I remember Coal Oil Point....that's where I got black globs on my new boots...
Yep, that would be the place for black gobs, though, who knows why, the oil seems less these days in the sand.
